The Nefesh After-School Religious Studies Program, 2017-2018


After-school religious studies will take place in Scottsdale once again for the 2017-2018 academic year!  Nefesh is a program is geared towards students in grades K-4.* It is designed to provide students with an opportunity for supplemental education in Jewish holidays and practice, Biblical study that is textually-based, an encouraging learning environment, and positive student-mentor relationship.  

Nefesh is organized and run by Congregation Beth Tefillah in Scottsdale and takes place after school at the J. It is open to all families at Pardes and other schools. Instruction will be provided by Rabbi Yossi Bryski and Mrs. Aliza Goldenberg.  Both have extensive experience teaching students.

The second semester of the Nefesh program will run from January 10th through May 9th.  

The program is organized as follows:

  • Monday:  Jewish Holidays and Halacha (Jewish law).  Grades K-4
  • Wednesday:  Chumash (Bible) with commentary.  Grades 2-4.


All sessions will take place from 3:55-5:25, which will include time for educational content, a kosher snack (provided) and activities.  Students will be escorted from Pardes to the J by the Nefesh instructors or may be dropped off by parents if arriving from other schools.  Parent pickup at the J is between 5:25 PM and 5:30 PM.

Program Fees


Fees for the Nefesh program cover the cost of books and snacks and are listed below:


Mondays: $250

Wednesdays: $275

Sign up for both days (discounted rate): $500

(Does not include walkover fee from Pardes to JCC ($25/month)

For those families wishing to enroll in Nefesh but for whom cost may be an issue, please reach out to us via the contact information below.  

No family will be turned away for financial reasons.

In case of medical or surgical emergency, I hereby give permission to the physician selected by a representative of the Nefesh Program to hospitalize, secure treatment for, and to order injection, anesthesia or surgery for the applicant named.  All attempts will be made to contact parent beforehand.

I certify that my child listed above is physically able to participate in all activities that are in conjunction with the Nefesh Program for the period commencing August 2017 through December 2017.

I hereby release Congregation Beth Tefillah, the Jewish Community Center, and the Nefesh program and allied organizations, their agents and employees from any and all liabilities of any nature whatsoever that may arise from his/her participation in any related activity.
